Extension for Chrome Replaces Baby Pictures on Facebook with ‘Awesome Stuff’

unbaby.meSo, I work at television station. With that, I have a TV in my office (score!), usually I have it muted and am listening to music while I work, but this morning a headline caught the corner of my eye and I just had to listen in.

Apparently three young developers decided that they were tired of looking at photos of their friends’ children on Facebook, and decided to build an add-on to replace these photos with “awesome photos” instead.

The extension, which is designed for Chrome, operates on a simple concept: replace any and all baby pictures on Facebook with “awesome stuff.” After installing the program, users simply need to refresh their Facebook feed, and — voila! — no more babies.

I mean, really? It took me 1000 years to get pregnant, and now that my little one is here OF COURSE I’m going to post a million pictures of her on Facebook. If you don’t like it…why would yo be my friend? Why not just filter my posts in general. You want to know everything that I say, but just not the most important parts of my life? I just don’t get it.

I mean, I struggled with infertility, I know that seeing photos of smiling happy babies and parents can hurt…but not to the point that I would wish that the children of my friends never existed. I know that these young men who built this add-in did this more as a tongue-in-cheek joke, but still…I think it’s ridiculous.

The extension, which is designed for Chrome, operates on a simple concept: replace any and all baby pictures on Facebook with “awesome stuff.” After installing the program, users simply need to refresh their Facebook feed, and — voila! — no more babies.

The plugin, Unbaby.me, is for Chrome, and is a simple click-to-add procedure, you simply install the plugin, refresh Facebook, and then “Rejoice: Now you don’t have to look at all your friends’ annoying kids.”

I guess to each their own. I mean, if they made a plugin that would block ignorant and annoying politically charged Facebook updates…I’d bite. :P

Comments

  1. They’ll come up with plugins for anything.

  2. I think it’s funny. Before I had kids I didn’t understand the need to share every baby photo. I also have friends who do not like children so this is right up their alley.

  3. Funny! As someone who has shared my share of baby pictures… I do understand how non-parents would get sick of it. :)

  4. Hahaha… I’m sure I overshare pics. =)

  5. Oh my! If it weren’t for pictures of my kids, I wouldn’t have pictures worth posting. LOL.

  6. That’s funny! I’m not much of a picture sharer but I love looking at my friend’s pics!

  7. I like to share fun pictures too.

  8. I think it’s funny. I don’t mind seeing pictures of people’s babies, but my pet peeve is when their profile pic is replaced with a picture of their child. I am YOUR friend. Not your baby’s and I want to see what YOU look like these days. At least use a picture of you and your child together and not just your child.

  9. Very interesting! Thank you for the review.

  10. Actually, I think it’s a great idea. You can like people and not want to see a million pictures of their baby.

  11. I suppose people will invent anything and if anything it’s good for a laugh. NOw they just need one for those people who beg for votes every SINGLE day 200 times a day

  12. The fact that someone made this plugin made me giggle. I can see why people would get tired of baby photos…I never do but to each their own. I also agree with Jenn on the profile picture LOL

  13. Who sits around and thinks of this stuff?

  14. How interesting!

  15. Ummm…I don’t feel I would have a use for such a plugin babies are adorable and I love to look at their photos.

  16. I think you are taking this much too personal. LOL Yes, your baby is awesome, but maybe your friends are struggling with infertility and it hurts them to see a million baby pics in their FB stream every day?

  17. It’s great for those who don;t like children…I guess?

  18. LOL That is interesting to say the least. I guess it works for those who don’t want to see kids.

  19. this is just weird. I wonder how it ONLY filters pictures of the kids though

  20. Sounds interesting though

  21. I think it’s funny, but I would rather just hide or unfriend someone… Not going to stop me from post 10000 pics!! :)

  22. Very interesting but I don’t think I will be using it. LOL

  23. I enjoy sharing pictures of my children as well as seeing those from Facebook friends, HOWEVER, there are a certain few that really overdo it to where it’s irritating and annoying, so I understand the plugin concept.

  24. I’m sure that’ll bring peace of mind for many!

  25. I don’t get it. If you don’t want to see their pictures, then just unfriend them.

  26. Interesting!

  27. I’d definitely sign up for the unpolitical post me.
